Kate Moodie is a native New Yorker, born in Manhattan where she still resides and raised two children. The daughter of a magazine editor and an artist, Kate grew up surrounded by fashion and creativity. Those two worlds have defined her career.
After attending the School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, she moved to France to study at the exclusive École-de-Léo Marchutz, in Aix-en-Provence. Remaining in France, she became fluent in French and deepened her appreciation for extraordinary style as she observed the women of Paris. Returning to New York, Kate began her career in the fashion industry as a fashion and beauty assistant at American Vogue.
After two years at Vogue, Kate returned to Paris where she joined the fashion department at French Elle. Several years later, she became part of the team that introduced Elle Magazine to America, where it would quickly revolutionize the look and reach of fashion magazines.
So began Kate’s uninterrupted career as a distinguished and influential fashion editor. Other notable highlights have been her inspired work as fashion and style director at Marie Claire, Self, Women’s Health, Fitness, Mademoiselle, YM, and also, Senior Beauty Editor of Glamour. In each case Kate helped build publications’ style identity and was widely acknowledged for her contribution in building circulation and garnering awards for publication excellence. She also contributed to renowned international titles, including: Harper’s Bazaar, Harper’s & Queen, British Marie Claire, British Red, and Italian Grazia.
She has had the extraordinary privilege working alongside legendary photographers including Richard Avedon and Irving Penn. The list of famous models and celebrities she has personally styled reads like a Who’s Who of fame in film, music and television.
As well as an exceptional career as a fashion editor for magazines, Kate has found time for a rich and exciting career as a freelance on-set art director and fashion stylist working on landmark campaigns and catalogues in print and film including; J. Crew, Estée Lauder, Revlon, Clairol, Maybelline, Liz Claiborne, Perry Ellis, Cole Haan, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Eddie Bauer, and Amazon.
Kate founded her own magazine in 2014, Mood of Living | moodofliving.com, an on-line lifestyle magazine of conscious living for men and women seeking a high-quality and meaningful life, that features stories of creative visionaries, travel destinations, and tastefully designed and well-made products.
Kate continues to bring her discerning eye and creative energy to her work as an inspired creative director and fashion editor. Small wonder she is so widely admired throughout the advertising and publishing industries.
